More than 175 years of German piano craftsmanship

Piano builder Eduard Seiler opened his workshop in 1849 in Liegnitz, Silesia. Under his family's leadership, Seiler grew into one of the largest piano makers in Eastern Europe by the 1920s.

After the Second World War the company was nationalized, and the Seiler family rebuilt the business in the West. In 1962 they settled in Kitzingen, Bavaria, where Seiler's German pianos are still made today, combining traditional hand craftsmanship with precise modern manufacturing.

That history shows in the sound. Seiler pianos are known for a clear, singing tone with long sustain, and a touch that is light yet easy to control, a character that suits classical repertoire, jazz and everything between.

The Seiler piano lines, explained

Seiler builds pianos at different price levels, and where each line is made is an important part of choosing one. Ask us which line any piano in our inventory belongs to.

Seiler SEMade in Kitzingen, Germany

The flagship line, 100% built in Germany in limited numbers, with a Renner action, the Membrator soundboard and German-made tuning pins. Grands from the 5'6" SE-168 to the 9'2" SE-278 concert grand.

Eduard Seiler (ED)German design, built in Indonesia

Built by Seiler's parent company to the same German scale designs as the SE models, with some of the same components, at a more accessible price. The ED-208, for example, shares its scale with the SE-208.

Johannes Seiler (GS)Entry level, built in Indonesia

Introduced in 2013 with its own design, the Johannes Seiler line offers Seiler-branded pianos at an entry-level price for students and first-time buyers.

Seiler grand piano sizes

A longer grand gives you longer strings, a larger soundboard and deeper bass. The bars are drawn to scale against the 9'2" SE-278 concert grand.

Seiler upright pianos bring the same German tonal character to a smaller footprint. Seiler SE uprights range from 45" to 52" tall; the taller the upright, the longer its strings and the fuller its bass. They suit homes, practice rooms and teaching studios where a grand won't fit.

What makes a Seiler sound like a Seiler

The Membrator soundboard

Seiler's patented Membrator system is a soundboard design developed to increase resonance and sustain, so notes bloom and carry longer. It uses a solid spruce soundboard with spruce ribs fitted into the inner rim.

German scale design

The scale design, the layout of strings, bridges and soundboard, determines a piano's voice. Seiler's German scale designs give its pianos their clear, balanced tone across the keyboard.

Renner action and extended keys

Seiler SE grands use a German Renner action, the same maker that supplies many of Europe's finest pianos. Recent SE grands add extended-length keys for more even control, regulated for a light, agile touch.

Handwork and finishing

Seiler SE pianos are voiced and regulated by hand in Kitzingen, and cabinets are available in polished ebony and decorative wood finishes for buyers who want a piano that is also a piece of furniture.
